The Siberian experimental station of oil crops was established in 1961 in Isilkul, the southern forest-steppe zone of the Omsk region, on the initiative of scientists of V. S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops.
The main objectives of the experimental station are to develop high-yielding high-quality varieties of oil crops with a short growth season for the severe conditions of Siberia and the development of scientifically justified technology for their cultivation, and improvement of mechanization means.
The Siberian experimental station annually sells up to 500 tons of oil crops and up to 1500 tons of seeds of the highest reproductions of grain crops. Twenty PhD theses have been defended at the experimental station based on research results.
The main directions of breeding and scientific work
- Primary seed production and production of seeds of highest reproductions of grain and oil crops.
- Evaluation of ecological stability and plasticity of promising varieties and hybrids of oil crops bred in V.S. Pustovoit All-Russian Research Institute of Oil Crops.
- Development and improvement of adaptive, energy-saving, environmentally safe, and soil-protective technologies for the cultivation of oil crops.
- Improvement of the seed production system, providing the highest multiplication factor with a high yield of certified seeds.
- Production of seeds of oil crops of highest reproduction for variety renewal and varietal replacement.
- Development of high-yielding, early maturing, competitive varieties of oil crops, resistant to main pathogens, adapted to different soil and climatic zones of the Russian Federation.

About branch
Director Loshkomoinikov Ivan Anatolievich Doctor of agriculture
The Siberian experimental station was established in 1960 on the border of North Kazakhstan and Omsk regions on the initiative of scientists of the All-Union Scientific Research Institute of Oil Crops and Essential-Oil Crops. The station was based on the «Druzhnoye» branch of the state farm «Lesnoy» of the Isilkul district of the Omsk region.
The main task was to develop new varieties of oil crops for Western Siberia and Northern Kazakhstan.
Viktor Vasilievich Yeroshkin was the first founder and head of the station. In the first year, four scientific laboratories were established: breeding, agricultural practice, mechanization, and biochemistry.
Experimental farming of the station consisted of a grain yard, a car park, and a livestock farm. In 1964, a gaskin output facility (up to 95 tons per year) and the first oil facility, equipped with a mechanical press, producing up to 50 tons of vegetable oil per year were put into operation. Since the early 1980s, work on the development of high-yielding non-erucic low-glucosinolate varieties of spring rapeseed and turnip rape as well as varieties of false flax and oil flax varieties with high oil content resistant to Fusarium blight has started, while the work on sunflowers has been expanded.
Since April 1997 and up to the present time, the station has been headed by Ivan Anatolievich Loshkomoinikov, Doctor of agriculture. During these years the station has undergone great changes. Research has been expanded in the breeding departments and biochemistry laboratory, and the material and technical base has been significantly improved. Modern devices, a new NMR analyzer, chromatograph, photoelectric colorimeter, etc. were purchased for the biochemistry laboratory.
Every year researchers and specialists take part in international regional and regional scientific conferences and seminars.
In recent years, the geography of oil crop varieties developed at the station has expanded considerably. In addition to the Omsk region, the station’s partners are Altai Krai, the Kurgan, Chelyabinsk, Novosibirsk, and other regions of the Russian Federation, the Republic of Bashkortostan, Tatarstan, the Republic of Belarus, and Kazakhstan. The State Register of Breeding Achievements approved for use includes 3 varieties of sunflower, 3 varieties of spring rapeseed, 4 varieties of oil flax, 2 varieties of spring false flax, and 2 varieties of spring turnip rape. Three promising oil crop varieties are on the State variety trial.
